Reflections on Week Three Climate Change Course

What are the most important themes you have learned this week?  The global mean temperature and how observations are used to establish it. How this let’s us know temperatures are rising and accounting for errors. Result is a best estimate and compared with two other data sets (NASA +NOAS) Science tries to explain anomalies, what is causing changes? We are using evidence to make best guesses but we don’t know what is going to happen with our complex systems.

What aspect of this week did you find difficult?  There seemed to be lots of graphs and figures that my brain struggles to.get to grips with.  No idea what a petagram is and find the whole discussion about rising emissions very depressing 😦

What did you find most interesting? And why?  How well the planet deals with CO2. Land and ocean working as carbon sinks. Fine until it doesn’t I suppose!

Was there something that you learned this week that prompted you to do your own research?  Whilst considering extreme events I reflected on convective rain. Once the preserve of occasional thunder storms in my childhood, intense heavy rain seems to be a lot more common. I have looked for articles to help my understanding in this area.

Are there any web sites or other online resource that you found particularly useful in furthering your knowledge and understanding?
